Carol of the Elves
Mrs. Claus, this time of year,
Is busy loading shelves
With lots of toys for girls and boys,
Each made by Santa's elves.
The workshop is a-bustle-ing,
Each has his job to do;
The elves are working 'round the clock
To make a toy for you!
Linder puts the benders on
The toys that spring or hop;
Joy makes wings and all the things
That whistle, toot, or pop.
Jamie, Joe and Malachi
Put knees upon the gnus;
Cleo, Mortimer and Jack
Put tunes inside kazoos.
Fifi, Jean-Claude and Babette
Put feathers on chapeaux;
Wolfgang, Inge and Marie
Make all the lederhose!
Ev’ry stitch is made by hand
And ev’ry tie is tied
By tiny elves whose skill is matched
By giant elfish pride!
But after all the elves are through,
There’s one more thing to do:
Santa puts the love inside
Each toy he brings to you!
-Robert Bode from Crickets and Comas
Ho! Ho! Ho! My thanks to all the elves of the world. May your stockings be filled with joy and laughter. Merry Christmas!
