Bookend Full Moons in October

Continuing the Full Moon Series, we can look forward to a special treat (hopefully no trick) in October: two full moons.

The first full moon, nicknamed the “harvest moon” will be shining tonight, on Thursday, Oct. 1, and the other — known as a “blue moon” because it’s the second full moon during the same calendar month — will be glowing in the sky on Saturday, Oct. 31.

The Magical Light of a Harvest Moon: (For Lucy W.)

O my lovely child don't close your tired eyes, and drift Off, into the soft, warm embrace of sleep too soon. For you must look outside, and view Nature's new gift This night: the magical light of a harvest moon!

-Dominic Windram

Ode to the Blue Moon 2020

Shine down upon thy chosen landscape

O azure Moon.

Shine down as we romp and spoon.

Shine down silvery and serene.

Dispel the dark spirits on this Halloween.
